Botsing Technology, a Chinese company specializing in industrial robotics and embodied artificial intelligence (Embodied AI), has won a Gold Medal at the 2026 International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva for its world-first trackless unguided all-position crawling welding robot. The award comes as the shipbuilding, petrochemicals, energy and power, rail transit, as well as industrial-infrastructure sectors face a growing shortage of skilled welders, particularly in Europe.

Founded in 2017 and recently awarded a Gold Medal at the International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva, Botsing Technology has established itself as one of the emerging players in industrial robotics in China. The company reports close to 1,000 intellectual-property rights and holds 38 international patents protected in markets including Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, South Korea and Singapore. It also benefits from China’s national “Little Giant” status, a distinction reserved for technology SMEs considered strategic for the country’s industrial innovation.

At the heart of this recognition is an autonomous welding robot designed to operate on large metal structures. Unlike traditional systems, which require pre-installed rails or dedicated infrastructure, it adheres directly to the metal surface, moves autonomously and welds in all positions, including vertically. Equipped with advanced perception and guidance systems, it automatically follows the weld seams and maintains consistent quality, even in complex environments – demonstrating the capability of industrial embodied AI to perceive, understand and execute tasks autonomously in real-world industrial scenarios.

This capability addresses an operational reality well known to heavy industry: welding the hull of a ship, an industrial tank or a large metal structure is among the most demanding operations in the sector. Surfaces are vast, working positions are often uncomfortable and safety constraints are constant – factors that frequently limit the effectiveness of conventional automated solutions.

Moreover, in many countries, companies in shipbuilding, energy, metalworking and construction face an aging skilled workforce, growing recruitment difficulties and steadily rising production needs. In this context, industrial embodied AI technologies capable of supporting operators in the most strenuous and hazardous tasks are emerging as a strategic lever to improve productivity, strengthen safety and preserve industrial competitiveness.
